text.unexpected_language
The text is confidently written in a language outside the languages you told us your users write in.
What it looks at#
Requires the optional languages input: the ISO 639-1 codes your users normally write
in. It fires when text.language — a producer check that identifies the dominant
language but emits no finding of its own, see the gate overview — confidently detects a
language and that language isn’t in your list. Both “not confident” and “no languages
sent” mean this check never runs at all — it never guesses, and it never assumes a
default language set on your behalf.
Why it matters#
Content in a language your product doesn’t otherwise see is a mild signal worth surfacing — not necessarily malicious, but often a support form scraped by a bot, or copy-pasted spam aimed at a different market.
What to do#
Low severity by design — this is a hint, not a verdict on its own. Send languages to
unlock it; without it, this check is silently skipped (checks_skipped with
reason: "input").
